Art Gallery of Ontario

Arranged around the historic Grange, the Art Gallery of Ontario is basically a showcase for Canadian and European art and also boasts fabulous sculptures by Henry Moore. The Group of Seven, a famous bunch of Canadianartists, had their first show at this gallery in 1920. The galleries displaying their works are of an exceptional quality. Some of the works include J. E. H. MacDonald's Falls, Montreal River (1920), Lawren Harris's Above Lake Superior (1922) and Emily Carr's Indian Church (1929). The development of Canadian art is shown in other galleries and some of these works worth noting are, Joseph Leagare's The Fire in the Saint Jean Quarter Seen Looking Westward (1845), Paul Emile Borduas' Woman with Jewel (1945), Joanne Tod's Similac (1992) and Jeff Wall's The Goat. The prints, sculptures and drawings at the Inuit galleries are also worth viewing.

The Henry Moore Sculpture Centre is a must-see. It opened in 1974, and boasts one of the largest public collections of his famous works. Color photographs show many of his works in their original locations. The most notable European art on display are the 17th-century works by Antoine Coypel, Luca Giordano, Jean- Baptiste Jouvenet and Jusepe de Ribera. The gallery also has works on display by Picasso, Dufy, Barbara Hepworth and Naum Gabo. Overall, there is an extremely impressive collection of varying forms of work on display, and it would be an absolute shame to miss out, even if you're not an art-lover.
