Royal Botanical Gardens in Toronto


When visiting the city of Toronto, the majority of people don not leave without having a browse around the stunning Royal Botanical Gardens. It boasts almost 2,700 acres of unadulterated beauty, with an astonishing 40,000 species of plant, and 20 miles of beautiful trails and pathways, all interlinking with one another. The fantastic range of colors and scents is second to none. The months from January to May show the Mediterranean Greenhouse in RBG Centre in all its glory. Here you can find the blooming jasmine, mimosas, bougainvillea, oranges, lemons and spring bulbs .June to October catches the Hendrie Park garden at its best, with the annuals blossoming along with the 3,000 roses.

It is sectioned into shaded, medicinal and scented areas. Perennials, herbaceous and tree peonies, a heritage garden and over 500 different varieties of iris decorate the Laking Garden. In spring, the Rock Garden comes into its own, with peaceful ponds and waterfalls and 125,000 blooming bulbs which are closely followed by flowering cherries. You can absorb the tranquility of this particular garden from the terrace of the Tea House restaurant.

A massive collection of over 800 varieties of lilac lie in the Arboretum, with dogwoods, rhododendrons and magnolias adding to the splendor. A fantastic Teaching Garden explains how to make the most out of small gardens and create different environments.
