Toronto Zoo

The zoo is located at 361A Old Finch Avenue, Meadowvale Road, Scarborough, and it one of the few institutions which allows the animals so much freedom in their environment, which is re-created to resemble their natural habitat as closely as possible. It was inspired by the San Diego Zoo, and covers an area of 710 acres. It is organized around eight pavilions and nearby outdoor paddocks. Each pavilion has its own habitat and climate, using fauna, flora, free flying birds and butterflies.

Bearded dragons, kookaburras, Tasmanian devils, hairy-nosed wombats, kangaroos, wallabies and emus frequent the AustralianPavilion, while the nearby Eurasia Outdoor Exhibits houses the rare Siberian tiger, snow leopard and yak. You can also take camel rides here. The Americas Pavilion includes boa Constrictors, alligators, black widow spiders, Mojave Desert sidewinders and pink-toed tarantulas. A fascinating Gorilla Rainforest exhibit can be found in the Africa Pavilion, home to the silverback Charles and his family of seven.

You can also go on an outdoor safari observing the zebra, lion, ostrich, giraffe, elephants, white rhinos and much more. The Canadian Domain includes a herd of wood bison, grizzly bear, wolf and cougar. This is just a small list of some of the attractions at this fantastic zoo. Although admission isn't cheap, you certainly won't regret a visit, with something here for everyone. The opening hours vary during the different seasons, and it is advised to phone in advance for information.
